The Roulette Wheel

Content article:

The Biased Wheel - a gambler's dream. If you can find it and track it the chance is good that you can beat it.

The term 'Bias' when speaking of gambling refers to an action or event that shows a consistent pattern over time. A Biased Roulette Wheel is one that possesses a mechanical flaw that allows a particular number to come up an average of every 20 or 30 spins. With the likeliness of one particular number coming up you can bet on that number each spin and come out ahead of the house in the long run.

In order to spot the Biased Wheel you need to methodically watch and record the spin results on the same wheel looking for any numbers that seem to come up consistently. This Bias could be a result of the wheel, the marble used, the slant of the table, or any number of reasons.

One example of a Biased Wheel could be that perhaps over time and continued use the compartment of the number 29 will have worn and become slightly more open than other compartments on the wheel. Even with the fraction of a percentage that the compartment became larger there is still a change which would increase the space the marble could land in. This visually unnoticeable difference on the wheel would increase the odds of 29 coming up and present the gambler with the opportunity to beat the house.

Although quite desirable, finding a Biased Wheel is not as easy to do as it may sound because casinos check often for Biased Roulette Wheels and eliminate the flaw as quickly as they discovered it. Remember that the casinos are watching for Biased Wheels as intently as you are so if you find one act quickly while the opportunity to take advantage of the Bias still exists.

Roulette Wheel Layout
The Roulette Wheel is the movable 'bowl' portion of the roulette table that is divided into red and black compartments that are alternately, but not sequentially, numbered from 1 to 36. Additionally, there is one 0 compartment and in the United States also a 00.

Where the numbers 0 and 00 are used they sit opposite each other on the wheel, all other numbers alternate red and black around the wheel.

Directly opposite each odd number is the next highest even number and pairs of odd numbers along with pairs of even numbers are found alternately around the wheel.

Roulette Table

Roulette Table
Straight up ( Blue Chip ) Single Number: Pays 35 to 1 Five Number: Pays 6 to 1 ( Green Chips )
Split ( Blue Chip ) Two Number: Pays 17 to 1 Six line ( Blue Chip ) Six Number: Pays 5 to 1
Street( Blue Chip ) Three Numbers: Pays 11 to 1 Column Bet: Pays 2 to 1 ( Blue Chip )
Corner ( Blue Chip ) Four Number: Pays 8 to 1 Dozen( Red Chip ) Twelve Number: Pays 2 to 1
Even Money Bets: Pays 1 to 1 ( Yellow Chip )

Roulette Table Layout
The Roulette Table has spaces colour coded and numbered to correspond with the colors and numbers of the wheel compartments.

Bettors have a choice of placing inside or outside bets. The Inside Bet is a wager on the numerical symbols or combinations of numbers ranging from 1 to 36, including 0 and 00.
Outside bets include segments of one third of the possible numbers to come up, excluding 0 and 00. These bets pay you 2 to 1, meaning if you bet $1 and the number comes up within the group you bet on you win $2 plus you keep your original bet of $1.

Also on the outside are options to wager on the numbers 1 to 18 or 19 to 36; even or odd; red or black. These pay 1 to 1 and are known as even money bets. They exclude the 0 and 00, which increases the house advantage and makes these bets less than a fifty/fifty chance.

Roulette Systems

Content article:

The Black/ Red System
This is a simple game of colors. Black and Red. Because 1/2 of the numbers are red, and 1/2 black (minus of course the casino advantage of 0 of 00) a bet on a red or black number coming up has a 50-50 chance of winning. If you were able to accurately pick the correct color every-other spin, you would break even, minus 2 in every 38 spins ( for 0, 00 ). With this in mind, try the following:

Bet on a color. If you win, take your winning and leave your original bet for the next spin. Start at $1 and if things work bet more, such as $3 to $5, if you can afford it. Double your bet after a loss. If the next bet also loses, take the loss and start over again. As long as you win, collect your winnings and leave your original bet.

Switching colors will not change your odds of winning. Each color has the same chance of coming up on every spin.
Note: You can play the same system using Odd/Even or High/Low.

The "Five Numbers" System
This strategy calls for straight-up inside bets where you get paid 35 to 1 if you win. You will place your bets on five individual numbers. Don't forget 0 and 00 are part of the inside numbers you can wager on.

Many people like to play birthdays, anniversaries or other favorite dates. Pick any five numbers, they all have the exact same chance of winning. Find a game where the minimum bet is no more than $5 and buy forty $1 chips ($40). If you limit yourself to relatively small stakes you can't get badly hurt. With this system you hope to get lucky two consecutive times. The winnings are nothing to sneeze at!

Start by placing one chip on each of your five chosen numbers. Repeat this same wager until you win, you have enough chips for eight tries. When the ball comes to rest on one of your numbers, you win 35 chips. Now it gets exciting!

Divide the 35 chips over your five number fields, seven on each. If you hit again the payoff will be 7 x 35 = $245.00!

At this point you could collect your winnings and quit -- the cash will cover many past or future losing sessions -- or you could risk 100 of the chips you've won by placing 20 on each of those same five numbers. If Lady Luck hasn't deserted you, you'll collect $700.00!

No matter what the outcome, this was your last spin. Smart gamblers know when to quit! Good Luck.

Roulette Rules

Content article:

Roulette consists of a wheel with 38 numbers, these include the numbers 1-36, 0, and 00. After all the bets have been established the wheel is spun and a ball is placed on the outer edge of the wheel. The ball will then drop into one of the numbered pockets once the wheel slows down. The numbers on the wheel alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers and alternate between black and red. The two zeros are green in color and are placed at opposite ends of the wheel. The object of the game is to determine which number or color the ball with ultimately land on.

The table layout is arranged so that the 36 numbers are arranged in 3 columns of 12 numbers each. The numbers are in sequence, and can be either red or black, depending on the number. There are two types of roulette bets: inside bets and outside bets. The 6 inside bets: straight bet, split bet, street bet, corner bet, five number bet, and a line bet. There are three basic outside bets: even-money, column, and dozen bets. You can place as many different types of bets at any time. There are no limits to the number of wagers placed on each spin.

There is a winning number display at the top right of your screen to help you find the last winning numbers. The common perception is that if a number has not been shown as winning in a long time, it could be time to put a stake on that number!

The most important thing you should know is how the table minimum works. If you are playing at a table with a $5 minimum, you are required to place $5 on each of your outside bets, and/or a total of at least $5 on your inside bets (inside and outside bets are explained in a second). So if you play black/red, odd/even or high/low, you must place the table minimum for each and every bet. On the other hand, you could place 5 $1 bets on 5 completely different inside bets (specific numbers or combinations of numbers).

Before you get confused, standard North American roulette rules have the table use different chips than other table games at the casino. Each player is assigned a different color of chip, letting the dealer differentiate bets and match them to the right players. These chips are worthless at the other tables in the casino, so don't bother trying to stack them up under your blackjack chips or anything silly like that. The roulette dealer will exchange your game chips for regular chips when you are finished playing.

You usually have to give some indication to the dealer as to what value of chip denomination you want to be provided with. For a $5 minimum table, you will usually have a minimum value of $1 on roulette chips. Judge this based on your average bet and whether or not you like to split things up a lot. Again, so you don't get confused, when you get your roulette chips they will not be marked with a denomination, you choose it, and all of the chips will reflect that worth (the dealer keeps track of this by associating the amount and color with a 'lammer').

Roulette doesn't move at a quick pace, it's for a more relaxed crowd than you're likely to find at the craps table. Roulette rules kind of necessitate this sluggishness, as making all of the bets is what slows things down. When you're at the point that you want to place your bet, don't be concerned about someone else having already taken your bet, chips can share bets thanks to the colors.

Roulette rules give you lots of time to set your bet, and can even keep doing so after the wheel has been spun, just don't try it after the dealer waves his hands over the table (if there are any new players the dealer will most likely say 'no more bets' out-loud too). Once the ball has found its pocket, the dealer will call out the winning number and place a clear marker on that number's spot on the table layout. The dealer then sweeps the table clean and the winner is paid. Wait until the dealer says 'place your bets' before putting any chips down for the next spin.

Roulette History

Content article:

The history of Roulette is difficult to determine because the origin of roulette is lost. There was likely some form of a wheel based game going back almost as far as the origin of the wheel itself. There are stories that the game was invented in China and brought to Europe by traders who were trading with the Chinese.

Several early versions of a wheel and spinning ball were invented in the 17th and 18th centuries in Europe. The first games that we would recognize as modern roulette were introduced in Paris casinos around the end of the 18th century. This game contained all of the features that we have today with the one exception, the single zero was red while the double zero was black. This led to some confusion for players and the color green was introduced for the zero and double zero to alleviate the confusion.

In the mid 19th century the single zero game was invented in France, this reduced the casino's edge thereby increasing the odds of the player. When gambling was outlawed in Germany the inventor of the single zero machine (Louis Blanc) accepted an invitation to go to Monaco to establish and operate a casino. The casino set the standards for roulette in Europe, and roulette remained exclusive to Monte Carlo until 1933. This led to the gambling and resort industry in Monaco as many of Europe's rich were attracted to the luxurious Monte Carlo casino.

Ready to try it for yourself, test out your luck on our Free Roulette game.

The use of the double zero roulette wheels survived in the United States and is sometimes called the "American Wheel". The introduction of the single zero wheel (with better odds for the player) resulted in the demise of the double zero wheels in Europe and has become known as the "French Wheel" in roulette history.

In Europe (also Atlantic City in the U.S.) the Casino's offered another refinement to the game that increased the odds yet again for the player, the option of "En Prison" was offered. With the en prison option if the player has bet an even money bet (Even-Odd, Red-Black, 1-18 or 19-36) and zero or double zero is the next outcome the player has two options:

* The player can "imprison" the bet. This means the bet stays where it is and the next spin determines if the bet is lost or returned to the player.
* The player may surrender half of the bet.

Most people exercise the en prison option so don't be surprised if the croupier assumes that you will also, be sure to tell him/her if you would prefer to surrender half of your bet.

Roulette Betting

Content article:

INSIDE BETS

Straight Bet:
You can bet on one number by placing a chip in the center of the number you want to place your bet on (1-36, 0, 00). If that number wins you are paid 35 to 1.

Split Bet or Two Number Bet:
You must place your chip on the line between two separate numbers. If the ball lands on either of these numbers you win. The pay out is 17 to 1.

Street Bet or Three Number Bet:
This allows you to cover three numbers in a row with one bet. To make this bet place your chip in the outside line of the row you want to bet on. If one of these three numbers comes up, you win. The payout is 11 to 1.

Corner Bet:
Place your chip in the center of four numbers and if one of these numbers comes up, you win. Pays at 8 to 1.

Five Bet:
The only five number bet you can make is on the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Place your chip on the outside line that divides the 0 and 1. If any of these 5 numbers comes up you will be paid 6 to 1.

Six Line Bet:
Allows you to bet on two rows of three numbers. Place your chip in between the outside line of the last numbers of the two rows. If any of the 6 numbers come up you will be paid 6 to 1.

OUTSIDE BETS

The following 3 outside bets all pay at 1 to 1.

Any Red or Black Bet:
Bet on either red or black. Place your chip on either the red spot or the black spot.

Any Number or High Number Bet:
Bet on whether the next number will be 1 through 18 or 19 through 36. Place your chip on either 1 to 18 spot or on the 19 to 36 spot. You lose if either the 0 or the 00 come up.

Any Even or Odd Bet:

1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12:
These bets divide the roulette table into the numbers 1-12, 13-24, and 25-36. Place your chip on one of three spots: 1st 12, 2nd 12, or the 3rd 12. This bet pays 2-1.

0 and 00 Bet:
Bet the number 0 or 00 by placing your chip on the corresponding spot. This bet pays at 35 to 1.

Column Bets
A column bet is a bet on any one of the three long columns of numbers. To make the column bet place your chip on any one of the 2 to 1 spots. This bet pays 2 to 1.

Roulette Variations

Content article:

Most of the rules of Roulette stay the same, no matter which variation you choose. There are only a few small changes on each, which are highlighted here:

* American Roulette: The Roulette you are probably familiar with, this features the double zero wheel. The odds on a single number are 35:1 because of the two zeroes. See our tutorial to find out the rules about this game. Why not try a game of Roulette at the 50 Stars Casino.

* European Roulette: Almost exactly the same as American Roulette, except that there is only one zero on the wheel. While this does not seem like a huge change, it actually cuts the house advantage from 5.26% down to 2.63%, less than half the advantage. There are also special bets called ‘call bets’ that you can simply say out loud, and the dealer will be happy to place the bet for you. This version is really only played in offline casinos in Europe, but it is still important to explain it a bit here.

Roulette Money Guide

Content article:

There are many ways to maximize your fun at roulette. Obviously, winning big is the very best way, but that's not always possible. With any game of chance, you've got to master your mind and master your money management. Money management is not a system for winning at roulette or any other game of chance. It's simply a way to ensure that you have fun and don't lose your shirt. Of course, the possibility of a big win lurks around every corner. Don't discount the possibility.

5 Keys to Money Management in Roulette

1. Never Gamble with Money You Cannot Afford to Lose
2. There's really nothing more to say on this subject. You know how much you can afford to gamble. Don't gamble more than that, and if you can?t stop yourself, get help.
3. Have a Plan Set goals for winnings and set loss limits. Believe it or not, many people stop when they've depleted their bankroll. Many of those same people, however, do not know enough to walk away a winner. Often, they play and play and play, until they've given back all of their winnings and their entire bankroll. Greed is the easiest and fastest way to turn a win into a loss. Stop while you're ahead and relish your victory. Remember that only a few spins can separate you from your winnings.
4. Learn the Rules of Roulette Sounds obvious, doesn't it? Take an hour to learn the different wagers. Start with the outside bets until you understand the inside bets, unless you want to bet on a single number.
5. Decrease the House Advantage Look for single 0 machines, and play them when possible. Just be sure that you understand the different rules. By playing the single 0 machines, you can decrease the house advantage significantly. Some players swear that certain wheels are calibrated improperly, decreasing house odds. If you find one of those machines, jump on it.
6. Clear Your Head and Keep it Clear It's not some Pollyanna clich? that attitude is everything. It is everything, particularly if your goal is to win! When you're frustrated, angry, tired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, stay as far away from the roulette wheel as possible. If you're playing with friends, watch out for each other, and drag one another away from the table when you're not up to playing.

Roulette is the one of the most popular gambling games. You can find roulette table almost in all casinos in the world online or live. Roulette is a pure game of luck. But if you learn some strategies you can significant increase your chances to win.

First of all control yourself. If you are losing, do acknowledge the fact that you are not simply lucky "today". Don't keep playing hoping that you could gain back your losses. Stop. Close your browser if you play online. Go for a walk or to the bar if you play in live casino.

There are some useful tips to win more playing online or offline roulette:
* Keep in mind that you are in the casino to enjoy yourself, to be entertained. Roulette isn't a job. Roulette is a game.
* If playing online, read carefully the rules as well as the terms and condition of the casino site. Before you open real money account in online casino, make sure that is not scam.
* When playing online, be sure to check the authenticity of the site.
* Always allocate a certain amount for the game, for the day. Strictly stick to the limit. It's very important.
* As with any game, a general rule is to gamble only the money that you could afford to lose. Never use the money allotted for paying other bills such as rental, utility bills, etc. You'll need professional help if you do gamble this way.
* Practice makes perfect. Before playing for real money, take the time to acquaint yourself first with the game.
* Don't gamble with so much money in just one spin. You may lose all in an instant. Place small bets.
* If you are having a bad day, stop. You can go back and try your luck again another day. If you lose some money today, you can win some money tomorrow. But if you lose all your money today, you will have no money for game tomorrow.
* Stay away from alcoholic beverages. Alcohol can greatly affect you decisions in playing the game. Have a clear mind when playing.
* Use "reverse Matringale" as a betting strategy. Double your bet when you win.

How To Win At Roulette

Content article:

Years ago, when I ran a roulette table, one of my favorite players and I would talk philosophy all night while he patiently made his simple bets. I knew he was winning, but not how much. After I quit the job, I met him for coffee and discovered that he had made over $90,000 in sixteen months of part-time play. That made it more interesting.

On a roulette wheel there are 38 "pockets" (American wheel - 1 through 36, plus 0 and 00). When the ball falls in a particular pocket, players are paid according to the number of that pocket. We'll ignore all the various bets and concentrate just on the "straight up" bets, which are bets on one number. You get paid 35 to 1 if your number comes up.

You get $35 for each dollar bet, plus you keep the bet. You can see that the house has an edge (5.6 percent, to be precise), but what if certain numbers came up more often than they should - more often than 1-in-38 spins?

Suppose, for example, number 5 is coming up an average of once every 29 spins. If you bet ten dollars on it every time, you would lose 28 times, or $280, every 29 spins, but win once which would pay you $350. In other words, in the long run, you would be making $70 for each 29 spins. ($350 minus $280) When there weren't many customers, I sometimes did 60 or more spins per hour, so you can see that this could be very lucrative.

Why would that number or any other come up more often? The short answer: Who Cares! The longer explanation has to do with the nature of the wheels. The pockets could be manufactured imperfectly, with one or more slightly larger than the others, therefore catching the ball more often. One or more of the dividers between the pockets could be loose, absorbing the force of the ball instead of bouncing it away, so the ball might drop into that pocket more often.

There are other reasons, including more temporary ones, like a drop of sticky pop in one of the pockets, or a build-up of dust. The important point isn't what causes a "biased" wheel, though. The important point is that biased wheels exist, and can be taken advantage of.

Why would a casino let this happen? Roulette wheels are expensive, and so they are not often replaced, unlike cards and dice, which casinos replace daily. This means that if there is a bias, it sometimes remains for months. I know for a fact that managers where I worked were aware of the problem, but as long as the table made money overall, they were too lazy to worry about one guy making money on it.

Charting a Roulette Wheel

John (not his real name) came in initially with two friends. They took turns "charting" the wheel, which is nothing more than writing down the number that comes up on every spin. They did this for weeks on both roulette wheels in the casino. It is an incredibly boring, but crucial part of the process, often amounting to nothing, since there may not be a bias.

As it turned out, the number "0" was coming in 1-in-28 spins. Only John had the patience, though, to continue sitting there night after night, placing one bet on one number, over and over. Within a couple weeks, his friends quit. They didn't have the patience required, and probably also didn't like the fact that even with the odds in their favor, they had nights when they lost as much as $700.

Night after night John sat there discussing politics and philosophy with me, placing one bet on 0 for each spin of the wheel. He was making $50 to $100 per hour depending on the number of spins per hour, and assuming the bias was consistent in the long run. After more than a year, and $90,000 in profits for John, the casino got a new wheel, and (I assume) John moved on to new wheels. That's how to win at roulette.
