Labor Dispute Settled, Casino Regina Staff Return to Work

A labor dispute between Casino Regina and its employees (more than 400 people) has finally been settled. The dispute was settled this weekend, after a strike that lasted a grand total of 52 days. The employees went on strike because they wanted to address some issues about night shift premiums, wage increases and family leave.

Now that all these issues have been addressed, the employees have returned to their working places. The Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation, which owns and operates Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw, said it is happy this labor dispute has been settled and the employees are no longer on strike.

“We are happy it's finally over. I feel like a lot of weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” said Fran Mohr, spokesperson for the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), organization that represents more than 400 dealers, cashiers, security guards and slot attendants at the Casino Regina. “We love what we do and no one wants to go on strike, but at some point you have to stand up for yourself. We have our families to consider and I think our clientele really respects that.”

“It's been a long strike with a lot of hardships for them. I think it's disappointing to all parties the strike did go on this long and it's too bad,” said Jan Carter, spokeswoman for the Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation.
